Following a miscarriage, the couple adopted two child, their first child, a son, in October 1992, and they adopted their second child, a girl in 1995. The marriage ended in 1997.

After graduating from the University of Michigan in 1954, he was inducted into the U.S. Army.

 

In 1959, McGrath completed a Master of Music degree in voice from the Manhattan School of Music.

 

McGrath worked with Mitch Miller and he was the featured tenor on music television show "Sing Along with Mitch" for four seasons from 1960 to 1964.
